One of the most common forms of sterilization for women is a tubal ligation. This procedure blocks or removes the fallopian tubes to keep the egg and sperm from meeting in the tube (from releasing from the ovary to travel to the uterus), preventing the egg from being fertilized. The tubal ligation procedure is a minor outpatient surgery done at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center. Your doctor will talk to you about the risks and benefits of removing the entire tube which may be helpful for the prevention of ovarian cancer.
