Menopause

Menopause is the time in a women’s life when menstrual periods stop, typically occurring around age 50. Menopause is official once a woman has gone an entire year without a menstrual period. The natural transition to menopause can take several years.

Perimenopause, which may occur over 4-5 years, is the transition time before menopause. Women may notice changes in their menstrual cycles.  Their cycles may become lighter, irregular or heavier than what they have had in the past. This is in relation to the fluctuation of hormone levels during this time of transition.

For many women the menopausal transition is smooth, and symptoms are mild. For others, this hormonal change causes more bothersome symptoms. Some women notice regular hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems, vaginal dryness, mood changes, pain during or decreased interest in sex. If symptoms become a hindrance, there are many treatment options available. We are experienced in helping women through the menopause transition and would love to discuss which treatment may be best for you.
